Events and Important Dates

Establishment of SEC

SEC was established on the 3rd July 1979 by the President of Maldives, His Excellency Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. SEC aims to prepare students for university level studies. The subjects taught at SEC initially were Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. The following year, Economics and History were introduced. On the first year of its establishment, only 47 students were studying at SEC. And only 30 of these students sat the exam.

In 2001, the name Science Education Centre was changed to Centre for Higher Secondary Education.

Establishment of PTA

The PTA was first introduced in 1994. However, this association started functioning well only since 1999 when the association was re-established. Since then PTA meetings are conducted annually and the role of parents' especially the PTA members' is greatly seen in school activities like dinner nights, teachers' day celebrations and school anniversary preparations.

Change of School Uniform

At first when SEC was established both male and female students were allowed to come to school in shirts and trousers of any colour. In 1986 the girls' uniform was changed to shirt and skirt of any colour. In 1990 students who wanted to wear scarfs were given the opportunity to change their uniforms to scarf, long sleeved shirts, trousers and skirts. In 1998, the uniform was changed from skirts/trousers of different colours to skirts and trousers of dark blue only and white shirt or blouse.

Introduction of Houses

In 2004, four houses were introduced. They are:

  1. Raimui house
  2. Yaagoothu house
  3. Feeroz house
  4. Asrafee house

Prior to 2004 the student body was divided in to the following houses:

  1. Quasar
  2. Pulsar
  3. Tensar

Silver Jubilee

On 3rd July 2004 CHSE celebrated its 25th anniversary. Students, staff and parents worked tirelessly to make the occasion memorable.
